Children's Faith Formation (CCD)
Here at Our Lady Star of the Sea we firmly believe that parents are the first and best teachers of their children in the ways of faith by what they say and do. We cannot do it for you. Instead, we seek to encourage, support and equip parents and other loving adults to teach, pray and celebrate the sacraments with the children God entrusted to their care. In this way, our Catholic identity is strengthened in the current generation and is passed on to the next generation.
During the weekly Faith Formation classes, the children are instructed by Catechist volunteers who guide them in their journey of faith through lessons, discussion, scripture, activities and crafts. Our program is designed to partner with the parents to help your child grow and develop in their faith through different themes and topics.
The Children's Faith Formation Program meets weekly from August through May at 6pm in the Parish Center. Grades Kindergarten, 1st and 3rd to 8th are structured classes. Children in the 2nd Grade will receive preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist (Holy Communion). The Sacrament of Confirmation preparation is a two-year process; the pre-confirmation year begins in the 7th Grade. Family participation is expected at home through regular Mass attendance, review of materials and prayers, as well as, through parental involvement in prayer services and/or service projects.
We will start again on Wednesday, August 21st. Registrations will be available after all Masses on the weekend of August 10th and 11th in the Parish Banquet Hall. Additionally, registrations will be accepted on Wednesday, August 14th from 4 to 6pm at the Parish Banquet Hall. Don't forget to bring your child's baptism certificate! To facilitate the process, you can download and complete the registration form and bring it with you [Faith Formation Registration Form (en Espanol)].
